EVR Tech 2021
A few major transactions were just announced at Evercore Tech and I am curious what the culture in the group is like pre + post-covid? What are the typical hours for Juniors and the relative exposure to Seniors? Is the work/life balance sacrifice worth the professional development? How are things right now for Juniors given the significant transaction activity?
How does this break down between NY and Menlo? I know tech is headed in Menlo but noticed that a lot of deals are done though NY. Anyone know the breakdown of number of seats for tech in each office?
General Tech, Large Cap and Industrial Tech from two SMDs in NY
Software, Internet, AutoTech, Sponsors, Startups from six SMDs in Menlo
There is a lot of collaboration between the two offices and other groups. Tons of dealfow.
~$60bn in transaction volume for one week. For one sector. For one firm. Crazy.
Menlo is ‘sexy’ tech (software, etc.)
NY is more hardware-focused (sensors and stuff).
Both groups make a ton of money and both are notoriously grindy by Evercore standards, but NY is especially tough. Partner is kind of a psycho.
Thank you for this info! What kind of exits do most analysts land coming out of these groups? How many decide to stay on as associates? How do they treat internal laterals between Menlo and NY?
Not many stay as associates...Historically 1 or so per class, mostly in Menlo. Both have good exits but NY Tech wins in that regard.
There have been laterals from NY to Menlo but not the other way around and mostly at the associate and VP level. Usually for family reasons.
Both are top groups but with difficult cultures.
NY Tech led by Naveen (the partner mentioned on the other thread) is one of the most successful groups at EVR. They do a lot of modeling, public tech coverage, heavy analytical books. You get the public exposure and the big deals with the associated tradeoff.
Menlo does more industry coverage, pitches, private sell-sides and cap raises; their software team led by Scott is really successful in everything non-public software (that's Qatalyst bread and butter).
Great info thank you!
