Exit Options as a Generalist?

I have a generalist offer from a bulge bracket (think Barcap, BAML, Credit Suisse, etc), but am concerned about exit opportunities. In the long run, I would like to work for a mega-fund (I realize that there are several intermediate steps between being an Analyst a BB and an Associate at a mega-fund like KKR, Carlyle, Bain Capital, etc), but am concerned that working as a generalist will prevent me from accomplishing this goal. Should I decline the offer and instead attempt to work in the M&A or Financial Sponsors Coverage Group at another bank?

Last, would it be possible to land a top PE job after working for a bank in the BAML/CS/Barcap prestige category?

Thanks!

Umm if your offer is for Barcap your only a generalist till after training, then you go through the group selection process. Everyone at Barcap starts out as a generalist.
