Fall Internship at MM
Due to personal issues, I missed the cut off for investment banking SA gigs this summer (I couldn't even begin networking for 2018 SA positions until the end of last summer and by then the positions were all filled). So, I took a PWM SA position at a BB (there now).
However, banking has still been my goal and I've been networking my ass off. Within the past month, I landed a fall IB internship at a very respectable MM shop that basically begins right after the SA PWM job is finished.
My question is, I recognize my career path is not traditional, so how will having a fall IB internship as opposed to an SA position affect me? While it's possible the bank I'm going to could give me an FT offer (it would be awesome, but I'm not sure how likely it is), I also recognize I'm essentially going into this race with my laces untied. How have people with off-cycle internships fared when it came to FT recruiting?

Fingers crossed that one of those helps you.
Get as much banking experience as you can, and learn as much as you can about the industry. IB experience in my interviews is more of a checkbox than anything. Where I spend more time is trying to figure out whether or not your personality and work ethic will fit within our firm's culture.
Whether it's a fall internship or an SA, doesn't matter much. As an interviewer, this wouldn't weigh heavily on my decision and either would suffice as IB experience.
I would mainly look to see what you did in your Fall position and how it applies to our firm, and if what you did there could be of value to us.
My two cents.
