feeders to top PE funds
I was at a Citi networking event today. A M&A VP told me that their group sends a lot of their 2nd year analysts to top PE funds such as KKR and Blackstone. Can someone confirm this?
not sure about blackstone, but i know at least one second-year analyst there will be going to KKR (i think he's from the telecom group)

Isn't SSG more about trading, making it a feeder into HF?
I have two friends from Citi who have accepted offers with Blackstone. Also heard many Citi analysts go to Providence and Carlyle. Sounds like a good deal.
SSG is like Global Macro Investment Banking, I don't have the time to really hash out what it entails.

distressed/opportunistic fund. They do both public and private (private debt/equity). Really can invest in anything, but look for complex, interesting opportunities that are misunderstood. Good group, make a lot of money, great platform to get investing experience and jump (or stay and climb the chain, but get ready to take pay cuts from HF pay). Top guy there made 70mm or so in 2006, thought he and his team got screwed (they did, but not sure why this is surprising) and left to start his own fund (Briger of Fortress used to run it also). Read more about it on GS's website. The group has a significant amount of turnover (mostly people leaving to HF's or starting their own due to pay). You can go either to PE or HF from there, most go HF route for obvious reasons (it is a HF)
