Feeling Behind on Coffee Chats

Current sophomore recruiting for ib, and went to a target school. I know now the start of november is the peak time for coffee chats, but I have only had ~20 chats with analysts across all firms since mid-september when I kick off networking. I have sent out 300+ emails excluding follow ups. I know we should be shooting around 40-50 chats by the end of the cycle and I realized it will be very difficult to reach that number given my current pace. Would appreciate any color on how to increase response rate and if it is acceptable to reaching out to associates/vp/senior people and non-alums!

thank you for the advice! Could you elaborate a bit on doing smt different? I try to always add in 1-2 line customized to the person’s experiences, but also want to avoid sending out essays.

I really don’t know. Maybe google their name and sees what comes up. Have had some kids tell me that they are interested in the sports I played in HS which is a better effort and I took those calls, idk tho

The average email to call ratio for people who got offers at my semi target was 1000/100. It’s common for people to hit 2000 emails as well. U really need to pump those email numbers up.

thank you so much on the data! Would you recommend reaching out to more senior people (VP and up) who are alums or trying other non-alum analysts first? Realized I really need to expand my outreach to not just focusing on school alum analysts.

Would not recommend cold emailing VPs and above unless they run recruiting for ur school. Start with analysts and associates.

Agree something different and try to see if you can get warm intros, if any alum or friends and family may work at certain places. This stuff helps.

thank you so much for the advice! In terms of something different, does that have to entail something personal beyond what’s on people’s LinkedIn page? I have been referencing any changes in career paths noted on LinkedIn or clubs/major people did in college. Would you recommend including anything else on top of that?

Any personnel connection vs highlighting their path. Are you from the same town, same school, are their alum from your school that work there. Was thinking more along lines like this vs highlighting their career moves. Would also try to hit the non-core school recruiting teams.

Likely that you’re doing this already, but just want to stress the importance of attaching your resume (with GPA) to your emails. I personally don’t respond to emails if people don’t do/have either, and I’m sure I’m not the only one who does the same.

yes! I have been attaching my resume. When receiving cold emails, would you prefer sophomore to include possible meeting times in the original outreach so it’s easier to schedule a call? Or should I wait until the analyst respond to avoid looking presumptuous
