First ever IB interview, what should I be expecting?
Undergrad at non target here. I recently interviewed for a SA position at a regional boutique that I was able to secure by cold emailing an alumni MD from there. I interviewed with an analyst on Friday, and prior to it I rigorously studied Rosenbaum and Pearl and read up on deals they had previously done on their website. During the interview I was able to walk him through a DCF without any mistakes and answered al other technical questions correctly. When he asked me if I was familiar with the firm, I told him about a certain deal on the website I had read about that seemed interesting, and he showed me a plague that they had from it. On the way out they told me they would notify me of their decision sometime next week. The office had only 12 or so people in it so I am expecting they only hire one summer analyst. Does anyone have similar experience interviewing or hiring at a small boutique, did I crush the interview like I originally thought, or what should I expect?
Sounds like you did a good job. Generally speaking, cold emailing a small (~12 people only) regional boutique usually is already a strong move as it really shows you are eager and motivated. If you answered the questions correctly, I guess it really will boil down to team fit and perhaps if no other extremely strong candidate with superior answers is in the race.
