First Super Day, prep help, Investment Banking Analyst

I have two Superdays this week with two middle market investment banks for an Analyst position, I have never experienced a superday interview before so I am looking for any help I can get on technical questions, behavioral questions, fit questions, or just what I can expect throughout the superday.

I am a current senior in college, and I have completed two finance internships.

The areas I am focusing on to prepare for the interviews are:

  • Accounting
  • Valuation
  • Industry Specific metrics
  • Case Studies
  • Modeling (I have no prior experience)

I understand I will not be able to master all of the above categories in a few days, I am just curious if you guys recommend focusing on any specific aspects of those categories (accounting and modeling especially) outside of the basics i.e. "How do the financial statements connect...". Very nervous so anything would help to ensure I am allocating my time correctly to prepare for these interviews. Thank you so much for your responses!

How prepped are you for technicals? M&I 400 is a decent crash course, if you google that you will find the PDF. Certain questions have an extremely high hit rate in IB (walk me through a DCF, $10 depreciation, name 3 valuation methods). You're unlikely to get questions on modeling unless you have on your resume that you built a deal model or something, so don't waste time trying to learn that. Same with case studies, those are pretty uncommon in IB.

For behaviorals, have at least 4-6 "stories" prepped. A teamwork story, failure story, leadership, etc. Be able to concisely talk about what your role was at the PE internships, and why you want to do IB and not PE.

Also have reasons for why you want to work in those sectors and be able to talk about a deal in each of them. You're on the right path with knowing industry specific metrics, also be able to talk about trends in each sector.

Every superday is different but plan for at least 3-4 hours. You'll chat with 4-6 people, maybe half of those are MDs who will just want to chat about your background and motivation. Typically Add in 1-2 VPs, as well as either 1 specific technical interview or they'll all ask a handful of techs.

I would also delete the firm names from your hashtags as you will be pretty easy to identify based on the info you provided in the post.
