For WSO Users in Canada: What do you think about the CBV designation?
There has been a wide range of discussions on CFA, ARGUS and other certifications on WSO. I recently came across a certification called the Chartered Business Valuator, which is available in Canada and given by the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
I recently saw a few senior bankers at boutique firms in Canada use the certificate in their descriptions. I want to understand - What qualities do you assign to a person, when she/he says that she/he is either pursuing or has the CBV designation?
If you have an opinion on the career progression, skill acquisition or networking opportunities that may come when an individual pursues this program, feel free to give it here.
For instance, even the people who diss CFA state that when they look at a person with the designation on her CV, they believe she must have good work-ethics and a reasonable amount of functional knowledge about finance theory. Some recruiters in asset management say that irrespective of whether you can do the job, it is quite difficult to break into research if you don't have or are not pursuing CFA.
I went through the curriculum. It seems exciting since it covers a good amount of valuation theory applicable in different contexts.
