Freshman Internship Questions
What's up everyone,
I have read on WSO that freshman internships are hard to come by, however I would like to do my best to try to get one for next year. Currently I am planning to apply to the JPM freshman IBD internship (I know this is very competitive). I was wondering what else you monkeys think I should apply to. PE/HF/Asset Management? ER or public finance at a BB? Anything at a boutique? I am looking for some solid advice on where I should be looking for next year.
Thanks
Freshman year internships are really considered icing on the cake. I studied abroad my freshman summer, had a PWM internship my sophomore summer, and landed a BB S&T SA stint for this upcoming summer. If you don't plan on studying abroad, volunteering or doing something else "special" this summer, than an internship is better than nothing. Take whatever you can get really. As long as you can get a name on your resume, sophomore recruiting should be pretty easy.
Thanks for the comment. Any recommendations on certain internships I should be looking at?
Local PWM internships, unpaid boutique internships/shadowing, anything business-related really with an obvious preference for finance.
Are there any boutique firms that are known for giving freshman internships?
A freshmen internship can be really beneficial for your resume and yourself, IMO. I know Wells Fargo does a sophomore program through there "Pre-Internship Program" in I think a variety of their businesses. Check out their website for more info!
Thanks, I will check out the WF website.
Boutiques usually don't have structured internship programs, especially not for freshman. Search for boutiques that are near your school and start cold emailing.
Thanks for the insight
Honestly any business-related internship is a good start. You don't have to do the WSO cookie-cutter recipe of PWM->Boutique IB->BB->FT offer.
Thanks
My goal is a BB IB FT postion, how does it look having a VC/PE/HF internship as a freshman or sophomore? Is it better to go boutique IB?
