FT IB Recruiting With Buy-Side Experience

Hi all,

As the title suggests, I'm a rising senior at a non-target who is preparing for FT IB recruiting in the US. I wasn't able to land an IB internship for the coming summer, however, I do have a PE internship lined up. This puts me in perhaps quite a unique situation. My resume is entirely buy-side focused - two wealth management roles followed by this PE gig - and to top it off, I’m an international student.

When recruiting for SA positions, I wasn't very familiar with the process and went in blind. However, I've since learned the ropes and I'm confident that I can navigate networking, technicals, and interviews. However, I'm not oblivious and I realize that I'm far from your typical candidate (e.g. students looking to jump ship from one bank to another). My background is all buy-side, and as an international student, I’m wondering if my lack of IB experience might just make FT recruiting a pipe dream.

That’s why I’m here seeking perspective. Is IB even a realistic goal for me at this stage? Has anyone else gone through FT IB recruiting with only buy-side internships under their belt?

TLDR:

International student at non-target without IB experience questioning FT recruiting.
