Go for “top” groups or groups that interest me?

For SA 2023. Going to be at a top MM(RBC/WF/Blair). I’m most interested in the TMT group but it’s much weaker compared to some of the other groups like m&a, real estate, industrials etc in terms of exits. I will likely try to move to a BB for FT but it’s obviously way too early to say. Therefore should I try and place into a group that actually interests me? Or just go for the “best” groups. Thanks!

If you have no preference, always go for a top group.

If you have a preference, ALWAYS go for the group that interests you. You will enjoy the work more, enjoy the clients more, be more motivated, get along with your colleagues better, be more eager to go above and beyond, have more respect for your seniors. You’ll learn industry trends, the major players in the space, the nuances of building CIMs and models for that particular sector. It’ll be easier for you to tell your story in interviews and you’ll be in the best position to lateral straight to a top bank or sponsor for that particular industry group.
