Goldman Controllers

Hey all,

I've been invited back for 2nd round interviews/superday at Goldman for a Controller's analyst position?

Has anybody been through this, and if so, are the questions techincal?

Also, what are the exit opportunities like (since it's not really my desired area of finance)?

Also, would you recommend taking a position such as this one at Goldman or a different position that may be a little more toward front office than this? I know the power of the Goldman name, but how much value does that actually have?

Thank you very much in advance!!

I noticed few things:

  1. Allot of ppl at the GS are trying to find if i was trying to move to the front office role later that is IB.. PE etc.. so make sure during ur discussion with them give them a feel that that you are going to be loyal to controllers group

  2. They need some one whos is going to be dealing with different business partners.. so ask questions about different departments( business partners) who are dealing with them..

  3. Technical side: they asked me some brainteasers... tricky personality test.. some accounting questions... reagarding the financial indutries.. do some research specifically the new accounting rules.. effecting financail industries that is FAS 157 fair value.. ask them how are they preparing for it..

hope some of this helps

my opinion is fuck the name. get the best job you can get. i personally dont tihnk people are that impressed with goldman controller, its all about learning real skills and being able to apply them, not the name on the resume.

thanks so much searching.

were you applying for an analyst position?

was your major accounting? i had my 1st round which was a half hour w/ 2 vp's and it was basically all behavioral except for when they asked me if i'd taken any accounting classes and i said maybe one or two and that was it.

was your 1st round like that and your 2nd round/superday more technical?

thanks so much again!
