Industry groups - m&a done by group which is ideal
Are you saying you have to select an industry no matter what and then you might get M&A deals in addition to funding etc
You can either work in classic or financing
Classic is the typical industry coverage group, where you advise on all deals (you hold pen on all m&a meaning if there is a MA deal in ur industry then you’re on it) you would also be the first point of contact for a company that wants to IPO for example - (the MDs in your industry group will have relationships w the companies ceo - so they win the business). then when you need to do the nitty gritty of the deal it gets handed off to the ECM team.
Under Financing sit - Investment Grade Capital Markets (DCM), Leveraged Finance, ECM, and Structured Finance … etc.

So yes, in short you either pick an industry or a product you want to work with (Debt, Equity)
