Group Placement For Non-Target

Hi all,

I'm a sophomore at a non-target and just accepted a summer 2026 offer at a BB. I have pretty much no alumni at the firm and am wondering how I should go about group placement next year.

Have a couple of questions below:

Should I start cold emailing people in the top groups so they know me when the time comes? What's the timeline for when I should be sending these emails? Overall, how can I put myself in the best spot to place in a top group like M&A?

Thanks.
