GS LA, MS LA, CS LA IBD groups?
Hi guys,
Does anyone happen to know what groups are out in LA for these three investment banks?
From extensive searching, I've gathered that GS has FIG, Consumers/Retail, and some TMT? And MS LA has M&A, CS does "full execution" with a bunch of generalists and a small FIG group.
Should I just do FIG this summer to maximize my chances of landing a spot in LA full time? It's probably going to be tough since they'll probably be close to being done with recruiting by the time summer's over.
when they recruit, they recruit for SA, which doesn't mean you will get placed into any groups. You will still have to compete with others guys for the same spot.
I don't quite follow... I'm trying to land a full time position with a west coast investment bank after doing a NYC BB summer internship.
Thought you're doing Tech at Citi?
Nope..
I believe GS has FIG out of LA, CS has generalist roles but def has a focus on sponsors (I think they cover TPG out of that office), not sure about MS LA...
Which groups are in LA? (Originally Posted: 02/16/2016)
I'm a NYer looking to maybe make a switch in scenery. I'm not a huge fan of Houston or SF so I'm thinking Chicago or LA. I know Chicago is heavy industrials and MM retail. What about LA? I know most firms have a presence but I'm not sure which groups are based out of LA at which bank and how strong those groups are.
All info is appreciated.
GS: Western Region Advisory(RE, HC, Media & CR); FIG group has mostly dissolved over the past year. Barclays: Financial Sponsors; Real Estate, Gaming & Lodging Centerview: Tech CS: Financial Sponsors, LevFin & Gaming (Generalist) Jefferies: Real Estate, Gaming & Lodging (Only Senior Bankers)
These are the Firms I am familiar with, all my info is gathered over the past month. I've heard about other firms groups but I cannot confirm it so I'll let someone else answer those for you.
Anyone know about Moelis/Lazard/Evercore? How about the other BBs (JPM/MS)?
Moelis is a generalist program.
HLHZ is strong in middle market, with Food & Beverage and TMT being on the larger side.
Media, Entertainment, Gaming
LA is mostly real estate, financial sponsors, and gaming/lodging/leisure.
.
JPM has Consumer and Retail plus a small regional Mid-Cap group. Morgan Stanley has Western Region advisory (generalist industry focus) and runs West Coast M&A out of their LA office.
To echo what's been said above:
UBS/DB/Greenhill all closed down their offices.
GS - West Region Advisory, dropped FIG a few years ago.
MS/Lazard/Moelis/CS/Barclays/HL mentioned above.
Citi - mostly mining
Macquarie - mostly gaming
Rothschild - Consumer Retail? Gaming?
Guggenheim (Santa Monica) - growing presence in Consumer Retail
Lincoln - Sell-side M&A
WF - Sponsors, Middle Market Group
This.
.
MoelisOrBust
It's been closed. They are still "maintaining" a capital advisory presence in LA.

To add to this.
Duff and Phelps has operations in LA
.
@zarlogerie" Out of curiosity, which sectors/products are covered out BAML LA?
This is all very helpful. I'm attending an M7 this fall and looking to recruit some LA and some NYC, depending on the firm.
JPM - Media and Entertainment Group
king of the land if you ask me syndicate almost every major studio's revolvers/vehicles/etc.
TMT & Renewable Energy, along with Television & Radio Broadcasting. Lots of opportunities.
What sort of deals are the sponsors teams doing? Who are their clients (which funds), what industries are the companies in?
