GS TMT Incoming FT-- AMA About GS Recruiting

Recruited for this group from a non-HYPW target and after interning, am returning FT.

Have had a bunch of conversations with an assoc that manages recruiting for my school (my older sibling is dating them so they were at my childhood crib for a week lol).

Can answer topics from: filtering process (they don't rly care ab at your hirevue), roundtable structure, and offer selection process (kind of like greek row but not actually).

Will keep personalized examples to a minimum but willing to draw generalities from the information I've accumulated. I would write a long post but am on my phone (app sucks) and have loads of free time.

Edit: have had a few DMs, which are fine. I won't doxx myself in DMs (apparently I have haters) so lets keep it out here so everyone can view.

How big is your FT class? How many didn’t intern there the summer prior? Curious what the FT scene is like for someone who didn’t previously intern there the summer prior.

FT class is p large not gonna lie, has historically been 30-40ish, but lots of turnover due to exits/lateraling. Current groupchat is 29 people but I know of some not in it rn that are joining group (and some who aren't combing back)

FT process for the TMT is:

1. Recruit "preferred" candidates from other classic (coverage) groups. They prefer filling from this source first and "poached" a few from other groups. Surprisingly many don't recruit across groups for some reason or another but it is the first step.

2. Launch a FT process. This is more traditional and is somewhat rolling depending on how much they tryna fill. Typically they'll run through campus + diversity teams to fill this first. Incoming class as of now is filled.

If you are not diversity or have a REALLY good connection (you know if this is you, almost impossible to get this from traditional networking (i.e., cold email)), it is literally impossible to avoid the campus team doing a first or second pass on your resume/hirevue. Therefore, essentially yes, you need to nail the alum conversations

Funniest

Any tips on how to get my interviewer to date my sibling as well?

"Harvthrowaway" claiming to be from a "non-HYPW target" lmao.

Clear troll/fake. Anyways, this guy is an intern and hasn't actually worked a single day in IB in his/her life. Lmao.

EVERYTHING MATTERS. Incremental advantages accumulate over time. So doing a better or more interesting thing soph summer only can help you. Say you need a score of 6 to get an offer. Having a bb soph summer can bring a 5 to a 6 or you could be at a 6 already. So yes, it is literally one of the best experiences you can get (besides like MF PE SA, which good luck)

I didn't realize that GPA matters a ton for GS as well (like more than p much every bank). I wish I fully appreciated how like you only really need to nail 3-4 networking conversations with your alum to get a superday; if they like you the hirevue is essentially a formality. For the superday, you only need to nail one conversation and that person will pull you in.

To expand on nailing 3-4 networking calls, basically there will be a few people that run recruitment, select who gets a hirevue and who gets passed the hirevue. When you first start reaching out to your alum there, try and ask a question in a chill way that basically asks them who these 3-4 people are (e.g., "I am looking forward to connecting to the whole (SCHOOL) team, but I wanted to ask you if there is anyone you recommend I especially try to speak with"). Good luck and let me know if you have any follow-ups.

Bro I will not lie, your name is pretty creepy--hope you get forced to change it.

And no the process is not the same, GS has an arrogance (did you pick that up while at GS or did you always have it?) that leads to differences in their process, which I am elucidating here. I never claimed to be special, we all gonna make it and no one outside of finance gaf what we do.

Thanks for reciprocating the GS humblebrag too btw lmao

this thread is beta behavior. smallest dogs bark the loudest. i've worked at gs citadel and blackstone. i'm here to tell you there's always a bigger bear and those more senior than you at goldman would hope you knock it off and stop dragging down the reputation of the rest of us :)

enjoy your holidays

Go watch some football dude. You’re clearly bored over break and begging for attention. We’re not gonna jerk you because you got a job at goldman TMT (through your sibling’s significant other i might add)

U right, Ivy league hoops starts today. Gonna bet on all the games. Also got SA offers at other top 5-10 groups although having some inside help at GS doesn't hurt... Cheers bro, hope you enjoy the playoffs today!

Just looking at this guy's previous comments and amount of MS he has... this is who GS TMT hires lmao?

Dawg you shat on a whole IB group and literally doxxed a kid from there just because he didn't place into MF PE lmao. You're the worst type of WSO user - a prestige-whoring college student who already thinks they're hot shit
