Hardest or most competitive internships to get?

What are the hardest internships to get due to the level of competition you're facing? Use to think this was just whatever top banking SA role, but have realized the caliber of kids going buyside out of UG is usually higher, especially for the top roles. What do you guys think?

Would probably say PE / HF from undergrad at a name shop.
All the people that I know that did were incredibly strong from a technical standpoint.
Close second would be folks going into restructuring.

MF PE because of the necessary pedigree - you basically have to go to HYPSW + have BB IB soph summer to even get an interview.

Next is prob the top pod shops (you just have to be insanely cracked at stock pitches), then Qatalyst (they hire like two kids a year) and EVR RX / PJT RSSG (your technicals have to be on another level).
Next is EVR/PJT/CVP M&A - still hard seats to get but diversity hiring + slightly less technical than the above makes them a bit easier and more attainable

Source: I interviewed at all of the above buckets (except Q) and am going to MF PE SA

P72/CAP 100000%. The massive of competition with such a deep talent pool for so few seats exists nowhere else in recruiting.

I'd wager that the most competitive internships are outside finance

Within finance, I'm surprised that no one has brought up quant—some of those places practically require you to have won the Putnam
