Has anyone taken a gap semester?

Hi,

I'm in the Class of 2021 and I have enough credits to graduate a semester early. I had planned to travel before full-time work.

However, a class I really, really want to take is offered in alternating years - it's not available second semester this year, but will be next year.

I was just wondering how it would look if I took second semester off this year (before my summer internship) while still graduating on time otherwise? Would I be viewed as 'lazy' by the analysts/associates over the summer if I bring it up?

Thanks for the advice!

If that’s the case, you should take the class if you really want to. If your self conscious about your scenario, don’t talk about it and just pretend like you graduated like everyone else.

What is with all these people worrying about what and how people will view them as or how they will be judged?

Relax, no one cares.

In IB, you are constantly judged on the smallest and stupidest things. People try to extrapolate your entire personality based on nothing at all. It's one of the most frustrating parts of the business in my opinion. So, I totally get the concern. Not sure how warranted it is here but I get it.

I’m tryna do this to save money cuz my undergrad business school doesn’t allow people to graduate early. If I get a sick offer I wanna just spend next semester having fun on campus.

Don’t think people would care much. You were going to take a gap semester anyways, you’re just rearranging the order of things. Plus you seem to have a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Just a FYI, check your SA offer prior to deciding since some internships require you to be a full time student the semester prior to starting the internship.

It doesn't matter, people only look at class year. If you graduate early, you're class of 2020, but people will just assume you were 2016-2020. If you really want to take the class (some professors are just that good) then I recommend taking a gap semester to travel or study abroad and then go back to finish your degree. I'm graduating a semester early to travel on a budget and save money.
