Help out a Rising Sophomore with IB Recruitment
What the title says. I'm a rising sophomore at a target that sends a lot of kids to EBs/BBs, and I'm planning to recruit IB next year. I am wondering what I should start doing now to prepare myself for recruitment. My plan was to begin learning technicals this summer (start with getting a more comprehensive understanding of accounting, then learn DCFs, then other valuation methods), so that I can spend a shit ton of time networking come second semester next year. Additionally, I am wondering whether it is too early to begin reaching out to alumni at banks just to learn more about what they do and make the initial connection. Appreciate any insights. Thanks.
Using this summer to work on technicals is certainly a good idea. Go through the guides, maybe Rosenbaum and Pearl, read up on current events, M&A markets, really try to get a holistic understanding of IB and you'll be far ahead of some other people recruiting. I'd definitely wait until the fall to start reaching out to alumni because summer is just too early imo
Everything else is on point but I kinda disagree with reaching out early. FYI, I’m a rising junior who just finished recruiting. I made sone intro calls during my freshman yr summer and later on it was much easier to just follow up and go straight to the point, either push your resume, schedule a meetup, or refer you to colleagues.
