HL Analyst / Sr Officer Discussion

HL just held a firmwide conversation for CF with the head of banking and it was honestly unbelievable how out of touch these senior guys are on the state of morale at the junior level. One of the best years we've ever had and 0 effort to share any of that success with juniors.

Some key takeways -

  • "Understand you all are working extra hard the past year, but it's a free world and everyone makes choices and sacrifices"
    • "I was an entrepreneur so I know what it is like to work hard"
  • On taking time off - "You have more say than you think in processes to get time off"
  • When the GS survey was brought up they laughed it off and explained how the time crunch on deals at GS is higher than at HL so shouldn't be as much of an issue
    • Artificial timelines that can be extended so definitely as analysts make sure to tell your MDs to chill out
  • Final comment of meal allowances increasing back to $40 / meal expecting rousing approval after spending 30 mins explaining how our burnout has been self imposed
