Honest question: How does UBS keep losing to Barclays if all the Barclays TMT team came over a year ago?

Recent examples of continued Barclays TMT dominance over UBS TMT since September started:

So many other examples within tech. On the M&A side, Barclays was on Synopsys-FP/Clearlake and were in lead left positions for CVC-Epicor, Digicert-Vecara, and Nuvei-Advent, none of which UBS even sniffed. Haven’t seen UBS Tech in a $1B+ M&A deal for months. Even within capital raises, UBS missed out on the Arm IPO and lost out on lead left to Barclays on an Allegro MS follow-on.

Its embarrassing given how many new hires they have…Barclays seems to be thriving without those that jumped ship.

It hasn’t been months, feels like it’s been years since a meaningful UBS Tech role in a $1B+ M&A deals

Barclays has a really good telecom MD (who funnily enough originally came from CS back during the archegos implosion)…other than balance sheet he’s prob why they are winning a lot of the large comms deals

Let’s hope their bonus structure is advising:

2024 bad time to do deals

2025 best time ever to do deals

then the flood gates open in 2025

But their past clients are still doing deals with other banks 👀

Can they underwrite a loan to pay large guarantees to good senior bankers? Asking as a deal-deprived analyst

Are there any sectors in TMT that UBS in the US is known for with the new seniors? I can’t really find many deals

They are still trying to turn it around. Old CS tech was much better and simply got decimated with just a handful of people remaining with all rainmakers gone

Yeah Barclays TMT probably was not doing well because of those who left UBS, but in spite of those who left for UBS based on recent performance

Aly Alibhai just left for DB and the Barclays TMT team sucks so terrible outlook for this group

Fine meaning you can’t get worse than no significant deal flow and simply begging sponsors to throw you in deal press releases?
