Hong Kong: GS Industry IBD vs MS M&A
GS is a generalist offer for interns and group placement will be decided for full time - which one has better reputation/better exit opps?
Thanks in advance

If GS includes like capital markets and all that I would take MS M&A. It’s probably your best bet.
No it doesn't - traditional industry groups (excluding DCM ECM and weird derivative/solutions groups), think TMT FIG Industrials etc - but it's generalist across industries
Go to GS if you want to secure a return offer - they generally have a higher conversion rate. GS does not have a M&A team so its always industry team + some senior M&A bankers for all M&A transactions. MS is for now hands down No.1 investment banking platform in Asia and hence a sweatshop but their strength is really at equity. M&A is a toss up in Asia and you will see banks like MS/BAML/UBS/JPM/Citi leading most prominent Asia originated deals. You see GS always has a very high ranking in the league table because all their sellside M&As with Asian buyers get counted into the Asia league table but in really they had done nothing from their Asia team.

Decided on GS at the end simply because MS was unwilling to 100% guarantee M&A. They just said they will try their best so don't want to take the chance.
