Houlihan Lokey Lateral Analyst

Hey everyone,

Just wondering if anyone else is in the process of lateraling/interviewing with HL for a lateral analyst position?

Would really appreciate any insight on how they run their first rounds (fit/technical/intense technicals) etc. Any examples of potential questions would be awesome too. Lateraling from a no name shop and have no other interviews so kinda desperate here. Thanks!

HL 1st round (LA): 30 minutes (1/2 behavioral + 1/2 technicals):

With behaviorals it's yours to lose. Have a rlly good why IB answer. They didn't ask me why HL but they did ask me why LA.

As for technicals, depending on interviewer you might get some wack stuff. Be prepared for PIK 3 statement walkthrough, NOLs, walking through DCFs, Sources and Uses, and how to calculate UFCF. Also, know LBOs (debt tranches).

Hope that's helpful

Great. I have a close friend who interviewed for their Chicago healthcare group, so it will differ a bit. However, he mentioned how much they focused on why healthcare, and why M&A. Additionally, from my experience it seems that the CorpFin (M&A) team knows how many people want HL RX, so they want to make sure you are passionate about M&A. Lastly, their HC group works on a ton of deals, so get ready to work.

OP here. Did my interview late last week, and it went pretty well. The interviewer was chill af and only one technical, which was pretty simple anyway. Walked thru one of my deals and apparently a modeling exam for the next round (haven't been officially contacted about it yet but the interviewer went into detail about it when I asked). That said, they were pretty transparent about the sweatiness so ppl here are spot on about the hours lol. Has anyone been contacted for round 2?

Lol good to hear these guys haven’t changed. I work in Dallas, different bank, and when I was networking with alumni in Dallas one of the bankers I spoke to told me a story about how he had a friend lateral as an associate to HL healthcare in Dallas and before he did he told his friend to whatever you do to not join that group because the hours were miserable and he apparently responded back saying something like he works long hours now it won’t be that bad and he said his friend made it only 3 months before he left lol
