How complex is the financial model in IB vs consulting?

BB analyst here looking to go to the sell side soon (finished around 1.25 years; recruiting here starts after 1.5 years usually). In my locality (APAC), most PE analysts come from MBB consulting (around 70%) with the residual coming from banking.

While I can do my fair share of modeling, I’ve been told that MBB modeling in some groups can be far complex than IB (i.e. not using pre-made templates).

As a result, wanted to get the views of this smart group of people. Thanks.

not mbb, but i've built the majority of the models i've used on projects myself

they haven't in all honesty been terribly complex, but the nature of the question you're trying to answer is bespoke to each project and therefore it's hard to reuse models (vs IB where you're doing mostly the same analysis on different companies as far as I understand it)

hope that helps
