How cooked am I as an incoming WF IB SA 2027?
Incoming SA 2027 for Wells Fargo IB. Also sitting on a full-time offer from a BB's commercial bank that I was planning to turn down to stick with the WF path.
Saw the return offer thread from this cycle and not gonna lie, it's got me spooked. 50-60% RO rates across most groups with some groups getting gutted, feedback apparently not even making sense to people who got cut. That's a coin flip for a whole year of work.
Was fully planning to decline the BB FT offer and ride it out with WF since IB was always the longer-term play but now I'm second-guessing.
Anyone have insight into:
Whether this year was a one-off overhire correction or a sign WF is tightening headcount going forward
Any other advice for what to do in my situation
It’s a top down initiative from Fernando Rivas. It’s not a one cycle thing, they will continue to be stringent with headcount for future cycles and basically until AI takes over the analyst role completely. Feel free to PM me if you want to talk more. Coming from someone who just completely the IB internship at wells and got fucked over, basically.
The real answer?
You are fine. Just finished my SA. The whole “RO were 50-60% across the bank” is just a lie. It’s cope by kids who didn’t get one. A couple groups were 100% return, MOST were 80%+ including mine. A couple of the strongest groups were 60-70 (LevFin included) which should be expected. TMT was the only group who was 50-60% and they were told that it would be that way from the beginning.
Work the hours, do a good job, don’t be weird and you’ll get a return. h
Don’t know who you are but which groups exactly had 100% return offer rates because to my knowledge none did?
False. Was in a group you didn’t list and our ro rates were 50%.
HC doesnt count bud
Most were around 70 not 80 I’d say. But there were quite a few with 40-60. Few groups had over 80
Is it expected that TMT will have open FT spots?
Can I PM?
Bump
Also incoming, I’m terrified atm.
So we are all tweaking out rn huh?
I can't answer your specific questions as I am too removed from the scene, but if you are sharp enough to land a solid IBD internship, I can promise you will be fine.
Several of my friends didnt get internship return offers, and yet they outlasted me in banking and are now VPs / far along in PE.
Trust me as someone who has been working for nearly a decade full time. You are hard working and intelligent, otherwise you would not have the offers you have already.
If you don't get a return, you will find other ways to stay in banking, if that is what you want.
Getting a return offer is never a given, so do your best and think positively. Like most things, the rest is out of your control.
Yeah you’re cooked dude
Don’t be a loser… bet on yourself. Worse case scenario you don’t get an offer and you can easily pivot to commercial banking for FT .
I’m in the same situation as you where I have a return offer from a BB commercial bank, but I was planning to turn it down since I already accepted a lev fin offer at a large regional bank. Mind if I PM?
Yes of course
