How do I get the most learning from my 1 year stint in banking?
Hey guys,
Landed a corporate banking gig at a large Japanese bank (think Mizuho/SMBC/MUFG) I'm going to start next week in their FIG division. Thinking of spending a year there, 2 at max; before I try to exit to LevFin/Private Credit (or DCM if those too are not possible lol.)
I'm from a developing country (India) where any front office finance role is virtually impossible to get out of undergrad due to sheer unavailability. So I'm very very grateful that I landed this job, and I know it's not IB, but I aim to make the most of my time here.
So obviously I just wanted to know; should I do to maximize my learning in this one year? Because I'm aiming to exit to LevFin or PC next year, is there anything special I should learn on the side as well? Moreover, when should I start looking for my next job? My bank doesn't have these divisions in my country, so I'll have to look at other banks. Just wanted general advice, would be very grateful if someone helps me out.
