How do you deal with Burnout/Mental Health and keep performing at a high level?

Not in IB but thought it would be the most relevant area to post because you all work ungodly hours.

I clock 60+ hours on any given week and have a much different workflow but lately been dealing with personal burnout.

Wondering how you guys who are constantly putting in the hours deal with it and keep going? Are you all pumping caffeine through an IV during the day and snorting Xanax at night to chill out?

Genuinely curious to hear from anyone who manages the ebbs and flows well.

My own mortality is probably the biggest thing I struggle with. I contemplated higher powers, the big bounce (look into it), and even cryogenics (look into that too lol) for many years, despite being young and in good health. I’ve come to grips with it more and more, probably as a result of constantly thinking about it, but it’s still in the back of my head. I like to think it’s most likely that this isn’t our one and only life, and I really do believe that, but that x% chance that it’s not bugs me A LOT.

A few things that I do -- this is NOT prescriptive or a recommendation. I probably have a lot of underlying issues.

  • Smoke a lot of weed at night, esp. on weekdays
  • 2-4 coffees / day. This isn't really to reduce burnout (more sustaining functionality), but you mentioned it
  • Every week I'll usually take an early night and fuck off my emails until the next morning, assuming there aren't fires to put out / imminent deal signing
  • Constantly bitch to my friends / co-workers; commiseration works wonders for me and makes me feel less alone
    • Whether right or wrong, sometimes a good ole thought of "if this retard can handle these shitty hours, I should be able to" makes me think things aren't so bad
