Going to be in Dallas and really don't want to go back home after my first year, so I was hoping to maybe land some kind of internship in the realm of finance. I know IB internships usually start around sophomore year, but is it possible to get something IB related?

The fact that you’re looking as a freshman puts you ahead of the curve.
I’d say this, sure, shoot your shot at IB, BUT don’t limit yourself and end up without anything!
If you like sports, maybe look at interning at the finance departments of Dallas sports teams. If you like cars, maybe look at interning at the finance dept. of the assembly plants in Texas (e.g. Tesla’s Gigafactory in Austin, GM’s Arlington assembly factory, etc.). Those experiences can get you an edge and spark future conversations.
Also might want to consider Big 4 “Financial Due Diligence” roles which are in the realm of M&A (if that’s the skill set you’re looking to build).
