How likely is it to land an internship in HK without a working visa?

Aside from the larger banks who can sponsor visas for students that are not from HK, are there other smaller firms that may do this? Or is it just a wasted effort to try to find these firms?

Hi actually, I had a friend who is from a non target school that actually went to HK for a major investment bank, he claims that most kids are not willing to go overseas and that those internships are easier then getting lets say a trading internship in NY. Hope this helps, we went to HK for fixed income trading.

Oh sorry it was my classmate who talked extensively about how to secure a position over seas. The pointers that were given to me was to basically apply to only the HK location, if you start applying to ones is US too they think you are not serous about going over seas, Also in your cover letter you should be very detailed about why you are interested in the HK location this summer. That is the advice I was given. Sometimes when you apply to various locations they think you are just using it as a back up, instead let them know you are serious about going over seas. He said he was the only american undergrad on the HK fixed income trading floor, so you have good chance.
