it's hard to say, but I recently read an article from a finnish researcher who managed to aggregate the data from several databases, and his final calculation was along the lines of: 1st year analysts in $1bn+ HFs or PE in 2011 (2,865) / (number of IB analysts working in mid-level BBs (251,539) * attrition rate (0.3255) )

Hope this helps...

It's funny that this comes out to the same number that Binary Banker provided, 3.50%.

are BB ibanking analysts able to get into top grad schools after working for two years if there arent great PE/HF exit ops?

Life passes most people by while they're making grand plans for it.

welcome2thejungleare BB ibanking analysts able to get into top grad schools after working for two years if there arent great PE/HF exit ops?

Depends on grades, references etc

From my personal observations: there are better/slighter easier ways to get into grad school then head to PE-VC etc MM ones

I have talked to many VC, PE, etc partners who are telling me to stay away from banking, none of them did IB btw

Binary's initial numbers seems way off, but still true that the numbers are low (would guess anywhere from 12.5 -18%).

This can be heavily dependent on your group, office location and industry coverage or product group.

Had a buddy at a fairly decent tech group at a BB in SF / PA that said his 10 person analyst class had 100% and another in a NY BB M&A group that had around 15-20%. My group had about half get offers or at least to final rounds at 10% (however a lot of peeps didn't put a lot effort towards it).

The last sentence - was it half or 10%? Half got offers or at least to final rounds at 10%????

Fuck yeah that's what we all use here at Harvard. (anyone jelly? feel free to monkey shit to emphasize your jellyness)

Anyone can give some insight into the OP about how likely someone from a BB is to get a PE offer?
