How many BB IBD analysts get PE or HF jobs?
What percent of those looking eventually land decent 1billion+ shops? Assuming an average industry group at a mid level bulge bracket

My friend actually calculated it, it is
3.50%
Yeah there are decimals, but the odds are against you
it's hard to say, but I recently read an article from a finnish researcher who managed to aggregate the data from several databases, and his final calculation was along the lines of: 1st year analysts in $1bn+ HFs or PE in 2011 (2,865) / (number of IB analysts working in mid-level BBs (251,539) * attrition rate (0.3255) )
Hope this helps...
I loled, but if you think of it, the chances are very slim
damn right
are BB ibanking analysts able to get into top grad schools after working for two years if there arent great PE/HF exit ops?
Depends on grades, references etc
From my personal observations: there are better/slighter easier ways to get into grad school then head to PE-VC etc MM ones
I have talked to many VC, PE, etc partners who are telling me to stay away from banking, none of them did IB btw
why the hell am I getting monkey crap thrown at me? This is actually true! Some of you guys are ridiculous
251k analysts? That seems really high. Was he counting all first year employees?
A big BB might have a 100-120 person class. You are looking at maybe 8 BBs, being generous with the term. Throw in boutiques, lesser BBs, etc, you are still way below 1500. Let's throw in UK too. So maybe 2500? The 251k is off by 2 orders of magnitude.
His numbers come out to 3.50%, it was a joke.
Binary's initial numbers seems way off, but still true that the numbers are low (would guess anywhere from 12.5 -18%).
This can be heavily dependent on your group, office location and industry coverage or product group.
Had a buddy at a fairly decent tech group at a BB in SF / PA that said his 10 person analyst class had 100% and another in a NY BB M&A group that had around 15-20%. My group had about half get offers or at least to final rounds at 10% (however a lot of peeps didn't put a lot effort towards it).
The last sentence - was it half or 10%? Half got offers or at least to final rounds at 10%????
Haha, I completely missed that joke. I immediately zoomed in on the details.
Around what percent of BB analysts break into PE? (Originally Posted: 05/19/2011)
Did a quick search but couldn't find anything.
What's the typical percentage of analysts from BB's that break into PE? Obviously it's ultra high for groups like GS TMT or MS M&A, but how about an average industry coverage group at Deutsche Bank or Citi?
probably between 10-90%, give or take 10% on either side
in other worlds, you've been trolled.
In other galaxies, turtles are cannibolized by blastoise.
just ran my numbers and got 67.538%. anyone else?
Sounds like your calculator's tainted by your nontarget-ness
TI 83 = non target , TI 89 titanium with the 3d graphing module = target
Fuck yeah that's what we all use here at Harvard. (anyone jelly? feel free to monkey shit to emphasize your jellyness)
Anyone can give some insight into the OP about how likely someone from a BB is to get a PE offer?

i thought it was 2
