how much does it hurt to ask for a one-off 2nd rd interview?

i couldn't make it to the superday for a bank due to a family commitment on the same day. they said they can schedule one-off 2nd round interviews (not participating in superday) for me, but the hr person didn't seem too happy about it... so i told them that i got things resolved (difficult conversation with parents!) and can make it to the superday.

do one-off interviews hurt candidacy? our career services and the bank itself say they don't, but i suspect they do.. any information on this subject? does anyone know great candidates who were rejected just because they didn't do the superday and went later than everyone else? stories the other way around?

thanks!

Think about it for a second...

You are applying to a job where the main consideration is insanely long hours. During recruiting they are looking for people who they think will be both willing and able to sacrifice their time in exchange for money/prestige/exit ops etc.

What sort of signal do you think you are sending? Family is important, granted. No one will argue with your priorities, yet is is the signal that we are worried about. You have met with the firm once, maybe twice. Of those times, you have a 50% attendance record.

Banks want people that will drop everything for them. Why? Because there are enough people out there that will. Simple really.
