How not to take things personally.

You know when you watch something on Netflix…and you come across the most unpleasant character in the world… Have you noticed that you often regard them with interest, curiosity, or even humour? They make you laugh because of the horrible things they do, right? You wonder… Why the hell are they behaving like that?

And when you come up with a clever explanation, you rush to tell others: “I know why they’re behaving like that… It’s because they're insecure, they need approval, they are fucking stressed out, they think they'll lose their job, they're getting so much shit from above, their impostor is messing with them... etc.” Do you realise how BRILLIANT you are at overcoming your emotions when it comes to film characters?

What if you treated your seniors like characters too? They do or say stuff not because of you... they just do and say stuff. Period. Even if they want to "harm" you, they don't do it because of you, they just do it because of whatever shit they have in their heads. And maybe the shit they have in their heads is not their fault... who fucking knows? Whatever the case is, you can see them as characters. They are characters. And you can laugh or enjoy them even when they do some horrible stuff...

I do not look outward to figure out why someone said or did something I found offensive, but I do look inward to understand what it is about me that makes me give a shit. 9/10 times I feel salty about a comment is due to some insecurity of needing my work validated, having my ego stung, etc. Then just realize its all cool and move on.
