How to ask MD to be staffed on a deal he's heading?

Title says it all - I'm an analyst at a NYC office an EB. MD and I have a coffee mentorship session every couple months. I was told he just won a mandate for a large deal with a company I'm interested in (we didn't pitch, it was purely relationship based). MD and I have a pretty solid relationship and have worked together on a few of deals. How can I ask him to add me to the deal team?

"Knock the door" if you're back in office, "shoot an email" if still WFH. Hello md, Congratulations on securing that bid for XX Co. If you're staffing the team and have extra capacity for an additional team member, I would be delighted to be a part of the team and help out with any tasks"
