How to get a contact to "push" you forward?

Soph applying to SA positions here, just wondering what correct etiquette is/makes a person annoying.

Talked to an alum recently who referred me to another person to firm. Both convos went decently well I think, but I don't really know how to proceed from here. I told the alum that I would follow up on how the convo went, but I don't know if it's correct to explicitly ask them to "push" you forward in the process.

Both of them asked me to send my resume if that means anything btw.
