How to include graduation grade on resume

Hello everyone,

I am updating my resume and have some doubt on how to best include my graduation grade on my resume, is this format appropriate or do you think there are better/ clearer ways to do it:

Unversity name

  • Relevant coursework
  • Graduation grade: Merit

I am not sure if Merit is clear enough or if it's better to write 2:1 or the GPA itself

Thank you for the help

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here are some tips for including your graduation grade on your resume:

  1. Clarity is Key: If "Merit" is not a universally understood term in your region or industry, it’s better to use a more standardized format like "2:1" (for UK systems) or the GPA itself (e.g., 3.5/4.0). Recruiters often prefer formats they can quickly interpret.

  2. Consistency: Ensure your formatting is consistent throughout your resume. For example, if you use decimals for your GPA, stick to two decimal places (e.g., 3.75/4.00). Avoid unnecessary precision like three decimal places, as it can appear excessive.

  3. Placement: Include your grade under the university name and degree title. For example:

University Name Bachelor of Science in Finance Graduation Grade: 2:1 (Upper Second-Class Honors) or GPA: 3.75/4.00
  4. Context: If your grade is strong, highlight it prominently. If it’s not ideal, you can consider leaving it off or providing additional context elsewhere (e.g., in a cover letter or during interviews).

  5. Relevant Coursework: Listing relevant coursework is a good idea, but ensure it’s concise and directly related to the role you’re applying for. For example:

Relevant Coursework: Financial Modeling, Corporate Finance, Advanced Accounting

By following these guidelines, your resume will be clear, professional, and tailored to the expectations of recruiters.
