How to Not Care

I am leaving for PE in ~7 weeks but for some reason cannot stop caring about my job in IB. It is miserable and has caused insane stress and anxiety over the last year and a half, but I still find myself unable to push off late night, meaningless work that will not see the light of day before I leave. Any former analysts have advice for how to stop giving a shit? I feel pretty confident that my bonus is not going to be affected that much one way or another because so many people have left and I have been a top performer. Basically just trying to break myself of the habit of getting anxious or stressed whenever I’m not getting things done.

PE is just as if not more stressful. Hate to break the news. Use these last weeks in banking to prepare for that. Take the mentality that you need a break to be refreshed for your new role. These guys don’t care about you and they see you as a means to an end for themselves. Stop doing anything past 8pm.

You’ll have a lot more responsibility / chances to screw up, more consistent (if not more) work (with way more nebulous deadlines), and, unlike in IB, there is always something, be it portfolio coverage, new deals, etc., that you could be doing. If you aren’t able to shut it off, you’ll work and think about it 24/7.

Oh, and competition for seats is 100x more intense.
