How to stop being a little bitch?
I’m a rising third-year at a target public school (not in the business program) after dropping out from a semi-target , and recruiting is not going too well. Out of the few first rounds I got, I was only able to get one Superday. I know it’s a numbers game and I shouldn’t be a pussy and mope about it, but I can’t help but compare myself to Alumni who did make it and feel like a loser. I don’t even think I have a bad resume; I have a pretty good GPA, a boutique internship, and some cool ECs, but it feels like everyone else at my school is just better and that I squandered the opportunities given to me by my school.
I know that I sound like a loser with an inferiority complex, but I want to know how to get better. Too all those who went through a mental slump, how did you stay motivated?
It isn't over until it is over,
What do you mean by opportunities your school gave you?
I meant the fact that I was able to attend a target school. There are a good amount of nontargets who do break in through hard work, so I can’t help but feel like I didn’t work hard enough.
Find 10 investment banks a day and contact 10 investment banks a day. There are more than enough until you land an offer.
I think your first step needs to be stop comparing yourself to others. There will always be someone smarter, making more money, better job blah blah blah. Focus on yourself and in between networking do stuff that makes you happy and it will boost your confidence. If you get in your head it’s all over, I had the same issue during recruitment and you need to tell yourself that you are better then the slump you think you are in. You will do great things, just believe in yourself.
You make me feel good about going to a nontarget ;) had to work my ass off to get my 5 superdays. Seriously though, it’s never too late to network - email 15 people a day. Find alumni. Keep grinding, you only need one firm to say yes!
Thanks, but I do work hard in is networking. Certainly took a month to get the hang of it, but I feel like my networking skills are nice, and I even have a first round next week. Its probably the only reason I got anywhere in recruiting. It’s just hard staying motivated in the face of rejection and seeing people from my school secure offers after doing like 3 internships before recruiting. Appreciate the motivation.
If you're at a target school, keep networking. As a non-target guy who broke in and captained a lot of recruiting for my firm, the networking goes a long way even for the target school kids. Anything to get your name known will help get you more superdays. This doesn't have anything to do with being a bitch, as you put it. You just need to put in the work and demonstrate the interest if your resume isn't enough (as it appears to not be given the interview situation you're in)
