HY Credit research > Corp Dev/Strat/Finance?

Currently a 1st year analyst at a boutique AM, covering HY credit research, and thinking about a pivot out of public markets into something more strategic/operational corporate finance, corp dev, strategy, or product management ideally at one of the big tech companies. Obviously, this isn’t a deal-focused role. No underwriting, no execution, no structuring just public credit investing.

That said, the skill set overlaps with corp fin/strat roles, capital allocation, and risk analysis, modelling, accounting etc. Thinking of how to best position myself for a move into one of the aforementioned seats since I’ll be competing with IB/PE folks.

Has anyone made the jump from public credit investing to corp fin/strat/dev/product? Is the better move to jump into private credit or LevFin first (is this even possible??), or can you go direct from HY credit research>strategic finance / corp dev?
