I got fired today - Pushed too hard for advancements

I got fired like 2.5 hours ago. I hated the job, but it still stings. It wasn't performance based and they said when I left (as when I was hired) that I was the smartest analyst they had. It was that I pushed too hard for advancements in their risk analytics, or for the layman, I told them what they were doing was stupid/antiquated.

Let Dale Carnegie's book "How to win friends and influence people" be read by everyone. People naturally don't take criticism well, regardless of how reasoned it is, and they will harbor animosity. It sucks, but lesson learned.

77livestrongSucks man, sorry OP. What are you going to do now?

As I was hoping to leave anyways, I'll cheer for about 15 mins, then realize it is way easier to find another job when already employed, then I'll cry for 15 mins. After all that I'll remember I gotta find another job and then start applying.

You'll be fine. I was iced in August 2012; started another role within 2 months.

Hiring market looks to be pretty good right now IMO

I'm on the pursuit of happiness and I know everything that shine ain't always gonna be gold. I'll be fine once I get it

That sucks, but most people I know who got fired end up in a spot that's better for them. Hopefully, that's true for you as well. I would suggest spending a few days considering all the things you liked and disliked about the job and where your strengths and weaknesses were in all aspects of the job so you can position yourself for success in your next move.

Good luck.

Yeah man I hate my job and the people I work with are pretty incompetent. I end up calling them out for one thing or another multiple times a week and they seems to be getting more and more defensive in their responses. Guess lesson learned is, as a junior, to hold your tongue and deal with it until a new opportunity pops up.

I got fired last year from a shitty ass job, and I'm still looking for a position.

P.S. After 2 days of applying I already got an interview for a position paying 30% more. Suck it old boss!

Sucks man. Hope it all works out. Whats the plan?

I feel you man. I stopped pushing at my place a while ago.

Wow. Hopefully helps you get into a place where superiors appreciate employees that challenge the status quo. I'd love to work with you (assuming the criticism is communicated appropriately). Your references should be fine if these guys have a minimum level of professionalism.

good for you! this may be the best thing that's ever happened to you. why would you want to work with a bunch of dopes anyway? you're clearly an A-player...seek those who are like you and change the world. no point in working with weaklings. you eat them for lunch or crush them with your pinkies, not work with them.

congrats!

How do you get fired from a job you were only at for 6 months? There is something missing here. Why would you push for advancement in under 6 months, maybe push for more responsibility for a promotion?

I understand getting fired after a year or two but 6 months?

I obviously overstepped my bounds

Thats weird that your firm would fire you if its a large institution. It actually takes alot to get fired, so assuming its a big institution, these guys would have clearly communicated to you well in advance to keep things to yourself. If its a smaller firm, well there way of handling it was terrible. If they don't value your feedback, then they can say that, why would they fire you for that?
