I Resent IB Peers Who Discourage Others From the Career
I hold this opinion emphatically when it comes to my fellow peers at top investment banks. I failed IB recruitment and ended up in corporate banking. My hours are decent, the work is boring and repetitive, and the comp is what CB pay is - good for the WLB.
However, one thing I cannot stand is the paternalistic view my peers in IB hold when I talk about how I want to lateral into investment banking — “Oh it’s not what you think it is - it’s horrible and I wish I had your job” yeah that’s bullshit because you can easily change to CB whenever you want but choose not to. Or the “You would hate IB, it’s really overhyped” - Not your opinion to make.
Like I honestly despise this type of “I know better than you” attitude that seems to plague first years who didn’t realize they were signing onto a job that removes the barrier between your work and private life.
