I was looking at some Associates at Lazard....

A lot of them came from Harvard Law school--more than other IB's. I wonder why? A number of these Lazard fuckers worked in a top law firm for a few years after law school, and then moved into Associate at Lazard.

I wonder how they made the transition? The profiles I was looking at did not have any financial background, either.

EDIT: Why my post got so many shits?

Really? I saw a few buggers who transfer from top law (as associates) into top IB's. But those tend to be lateral into top positions (VP and MD). Lazard is the rare exception who takes in fuckers from law to associate.

Don't know too much about this beyond a few connections I have in the law field, but some investment banks do hire former attorneys who have M&A legal experience. When you think about all of the steps, legal documents, and minute details that go into many IB services (M&A, IPO, debt raises, etc.), it makes sense. Actual IB work is not rocket science, anyone can learn it, so why not diversify the talent pool by taking someone who can add a ton of value from a different angle?

That is my assumption behind hiring former law school grads, but I could be totally wrong...

Thanks for that info. I'm thinking about T6 to IB, but everyone tells me that's a bad reason. But T6 has a better shot at IB than M20, in my opinion. I was looking at HBS and even they only had like 25% in financial services. I mean, I'm sure its mostly due to self selection--mostly. I think that T6 law would be a better shot, b/c if you miss IB the first time (After graduation), I can get a BigLaw job and work into M&A or restructuring and then make a move into IB .
