iBanking watches: Baume et Mercier Classima (Quartz)
What do you guys think about the Baume et Mercier Classima? Many in the industry say its the perfect intern watch for ib but at face value it just seems like the bankers version of the Timex Weekender. It has a great price and probably well built but nothing more. I understand you can't expect more given the price your paying for it, but I'm just so curious as to why people love this watch so much. If you are one of those people please elaborate
Why the fuck would you buy a watch with a quartz movement
Probably because if an intern shows up with some kind of high-end watch, they're more likely to create a negative reputation for themselves then if they had a run of the mill quartz watch?
Dude fuck that. As long as it’s not a Hulk all up in your face, they could have a decent mechanical watch without being negatively judged.
There are many cheap mechanical watches (Tissot/Seiko)... it's less of the movement and more of the brand. And if one can choose the movement, I would go with mechanical even as an intern.
Baume and Mercier, Longines, etc... are good bang for buck used. And nothing wrong with quartz.
No self-respecting watch enthusiast buys a quartz unless you're buying a vintage Rolex or other brand that made high-quality quartz movements back in the day. If you have £1,000 to spend on a watch get yourself an Oris or shop around for old Omegas
Again, you’re a senior consultant and most of the people on WSO are very young and its impractical to get a nice high end watch at that level. Plus they’re probably not even watch enthusiasts,
