IBD and Africa

I'm supposed to hear back shortly from an Africa focused shop's NYC office. My question is what is IB like in Africa in particular ECM/DCM and M&A. Most of this firms deals seem to focus on South Africa and Nigeria and they have offices there.

M&A is pretty busy in Africa with everyone chasing the African success story, there is a lot of competition though. Check out the Zephyr report on Africa and South Africa at mandoportal.com

However ECM is not such a big deal except in South Africa and Kenya who have fairly developed financial services sectors. DCM in South Africa is a big deal as it is often used to fund Pan African Investments. Many banks have dedicated DCM groups. Nigeria's DCM is growing but many Nigerian firms raise capital in London, New York or Johannesburg.

HAha, what happened to Kenny Powers' comment about the Nigerian girl? Too funny, stuff like that is why I love this site
