Associate Interview Technical Question Difficulty Fluctuation
Hey guys, just curious to hear your take on investment banking technical interview difficulty fluctuation. I would assume that intuitively, folks with CFA/CPA/banking/M&A due diligence or finance/accounting background in general would get grilled on technicals? vs folks with pure STEM background and by background I don’t mean STEM undergrad + consulting, meaning STEM undergrad + STEM work experience, would less likely to get grilled because the depth and length of finance/accounting exposure is just sheer few months of business school?
It really depends on the bank and who's interviewing you. I had minimal finance experience and didn't get grilled hardly at all by the MM bank that offered me. It was very basic, like, "Walk me through a DCF," or "How does $10 in depreciation affect the financial statements."
But I also got grilled by an associate at a regional boutique.
