Improving typing speed and keyboard navigation

As the title says, I am super concerned with my typing speed right now (46 wpm) and am 100% convinced that it will be big disadvantage for me in productivity. I have to glance at the keyboard while typing, and only use index and middle fingers to type.

Anyone knows how I can improve this? Any tips and advice would be awesome.

Thanks!

Hey over_seeen, I'm the WSO Monkey Bot and I'm here since nobody responded to your topic! Bummer...could just be unlucky but one of these topics will help shed some light:

I learned how to type back when I was about 12 with a broken dominant hand. My typing style is drastically different because of that. But I remember what actually gave me the skills to type...AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). The faster the response, the more the chat felt like a conversation; which was really important to me when I was about 12 years old.

Innovation is driven by necessity. While my example may be sophomoric, it demonstrates that point well. Find something that requires a keyboard to do, and something you enjoy or has time pressure involved, but also does not have bad repercussions with typing mistakes.

  • Responding to comments on WSO
  • Responding to text messages with computer (if on Apple phones and laptops this would be pretty easy)
  • Develop a platonic relationship with a coworker on your company's chat platform (I worked at a company that used the GMail platform and had a chat feature)
  • Education/Typing games are often free online

Bottom line, you will get better with more practice and have many avenues to do so!
