Internal Mobility at GS, from SF SA - NY FT?

Incoming SA at GS SF, but due to personal reasons want to be in NY for FT. Does anyone know if this would be possible?

Should I wait till I receive return offer to ask or ask mid way through the internship?

I’d also want to go to NY after seeing the survey

If you try to go to NY you’ll likely kill your opportunity at an offer in SF when the word gets around. It’s almost like recruiting for a different firm (albeit much easier since you’re at the bank), but getting a return offer in SF =/= getting a return offer at GS and politely asking to switch location.

Try to hedge your bets by recruiting for many different banks in NY and hope that it works out great. If you want any shot at staying at GS then make sure you crush it for the first month or so, then start networking with people. That way you at least have a good track record going forward within the firm (word travels around about who’s good).

Thanks for the advice! Would love to stay at GS, as the people I've met across both offices are awesome and I fit in quite well but being in NY is a priority.

The main reason is I want to be in NY right out of college, waiting two years won't really work for me.

I understand. I think your best bet would be to secure a return offer, then ask if you can switch. Do not indicate to anyone at any time before getting a return offer that you'd want to switch.

I know someone at another BB who switched from the banks 2nd strongest office to NYC from SA to FT and he said his staffer was pissed. HR allowed him to make the move though.

I actually would like to switch from a NY SA to a SF FT though not a SA at GS...
