International geographical mobility at EBs?

Hi everyone,

I accepted a 2021 SA offer at an EB ( think Evercore/Moelis/CVP) in NY. I am an international student and while these places are amazing with working around visas etc, I've been worried about the political situation in the US. I am pretty sure that immigration policies are going to get harder ( especially if the current administration is re elected). I have an extended OPT of three years but I am really considering moving to the UK for full time for peace of mind (esp depending on election results). I am wondering if anyone has experience with relocating at an EB from the US to an international office. Is it a good idea to bring this up with HR right now or next year once I start? I know that BBs are super flexible with geographical mobility but with how small teams are at EBs, I wonder if they always have openings in other offices for people who might want to move. Another option would be to work super hard, get a return offer and recuit at BBs for FT. Will really appreciate your thoughts.

Thank you :)

Visited the Moelis office and they specifically mentioned that they are very supportive of analysts moving between offices. They even had an analyst who studied in the US, worked in HK, and moved back to NYC at the presentation to talk about it. Not sure if it’s a PR thing, but just wanted to let you know as you mentioned them.

EBs are generally much less likely to be able to do it than BBs.

A lot of EBs expect you to move to PE after a couple of years (tho the ones you mentioned are generally good with A2A). These are much less established internationally and the offices are very small. Even the largest out of the three EVC has a p small London office with not much need for headcount at the analyst/ associate level,.

Generally, for internationals, BBs are always a better bet because of this. This is because H1-B chances are so low and you generally (almost always with rare exceptions) need a H to recrut for PE so the chances of you being shipped to an international office are high and doing so with a EB is very risky. Very happy to provide additional insight- have experience in this.

Moelis and CVP are much smaller than Evercore and I can't speak for them, but def seen this happen for Analysts and Associates at Evercore (NY to London and London to NY). Sometimes, I think it even works out in your favor to be at EB vs BB for mobility between large offices like NY/London because they place heavier emphasis on the need/motive on a case-by-case scenario. Also aware of an Analyst even moving to HK office from NY at Evercore.
