Interning at a non-NYC BB Office

I'm an incoming freshman to Tepper (which means a lot of you just hit the back button) that has recently been offered the opportunity to intern at my regional BB location. This chance is guaranteed through the summer of my sophomore year (if I can't fight my way into an NYC internship)

I understand that a freshly minted high school grad probably wont get any meaningful work handed to him. Still, I'm greatly excited to get a taste of the field.

I just want a decent evaluation of how this will look on my future resume in terms of landing the job senior year. How do you guys value this kind of chance, even if it isn't in New York?

Are you talking about a PWM internship or something of that nature? I am from the area and was not aware of any offices for BB banks other than some PWM type stuff, unless you are with PNC (not BB).

Internships can be extremely valuable regardless of location (there are exceptions). New York obviously has the greatest breadth and depth in most cases, but a shitty internship in New York isn't equal to a good internship in a different city. This position could very well help you get an interview for the position you are looking for (signals interests, builds your network, etc.). Figure out what exactly you are doing at this internship and what the office is doing and people might be able to help you a bit more.

Also, plenty of people don't get much directly finance related stuff until after their junior year and have little difficulty getting a job. There are too many other factors involved to worry about it much. Just do well in your first couple years and enjoy college and you should have more opportunities start to present themselves.

Oops, I live in the Pacific NW and have a connection that can set me up with internships within locations in Bellevue and Seattle.

Location-wise, IB opportunities may be somewhat limited so I'll most likely end up with PWM.
