Internship in M&A at EY

Hi,

I have the opportunity to do an internship in M&A (FIG) at EY in France. I don't have any previous internships related to corporate finance before.

Do you think it's a good opportunity compared to MM boutiques ?

Thank you !

The role of M&A under TAS will be segregated in few different sub-groups, such as FDD (financial due diligence), valuations, and others (the terminology differs between each big 4 firm but the work remains the same). Under TAS, your work will be much more related to accounting but in an M&A context. For instance, in financial due diligence, you might work on Quality of Earnings (QoE) analyses, net debt schedules, working capital schedules, etc. Compared to auditing, TAS will give you a leg up for an eventual transfer into finance and banking roles. However, because Corporate Finance groups at big 4 firms are much more focused on finance and essentially do the same work as investment banking groups, they will be even more beneficial for you if you wish to eventually transfer in IB.

How abt ey in asia, especially the singapore office. I see that ey sg office does not have any corporate finance department but they do have m&a advisory under their TAS department. Was wondering if this is similar to CF in other big 4s. Could u shed some light on this issue if possible?

A big 4 M&A internship is seen to be even better than a big 4 TS internship, which in itself is good, at least here in the UK anyway.

Should be good preparation for IBD summer analyst recruitment or analyst recruitment for some middle market / boutique firms.

(And also as another option, doing 2-3 years of M&A at EY should allow you to lateral to other IBs full-time)

I have done a big 4 TS internship and will be going to follow this option of potentially looking at laterally moving after qualifying. It is definitely a route that a fair few take in the UK.
