Interviewer didn’t get back after talking about next steps

So I have been interviewing with a company for over two months now and they just recently had me complete a case study, which I was told I did an excellent job with. I was told shortly after the case that I would be reached out to at a rather definitive date about next steps. That time has now passed by more than 7 days and I have followed up via email about 2 business days ago.

Is this the end of the line or am I overthinking it?

I'd probably give it a little more time since you already followed up recently. At the 1-2 week mark after your follow-up is when I'd make a last attempt at reaching out to HR or your interviewers.
